Jet Airways in India

Jet Airways is an airline based in India. It is the largest private airline in India and serves both domestic and international routes. It operates over 250 flights to 44 destinations across the country. The majority of its flights are operated out of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai.

In an unprecedented step in Indian Civil Avation, Jet Airways entered in a deal with the Government of India operated carrier Air India to lease an aircraft to them. This was a win-win situation for both the carriers as :

Jet Airways had leased Airbus A340 aircrafts from South African Airways for their expanding International service. One of the aircraft was not being utilized as the airline awaits clearance from the government of United States to fly there.

History of Jet airways

Boeing 737-900 purchased by Jet in 2003Jet Airways was established on 5 May 1993 was with a fleet of 4 Boeing 737-300 aircraft. It had 24 daily flights serving 12 destinations. In 2002/2003 it had a market share of 46%. Jet is generally thought to have the best safety standards and reputation of all airlines operating within India.

Its 44 destinations include most of the big cities in India. It also flies to Kathmandu in Nepal, Colombo in Sri Lanka and Singapore.

They are also planning to fly to Dhaka in Bangladesh. More recently, Jet Airways has begun flights to London's Heathrow Airport, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore's Changi Airport. Jet Airways is expected to begin service to Newark via Brussels beginning in June 2005.
