Mammootty is a superstar of Malayalam cinema. He was born as Muhammadkutty Ismail Panaparambil on 7 September 1951 in Kottayam district. His father Ismail was a farmer and mother Fatima a housewife.
Mammootty did his school from St. Albert School and Government School, Ernakulam. He took degree in Law from Ernakulam Government Law College and practiced law for two years in Manjeri.
Mammootty made entry into films late in life. His debut film Devalokam directed by M.T. Vasudevan Nair remains uncompleted. It was K.G. George who gave him work in films and made him a megastar.
Films like Yavanika, Valarthumrigangal and Vilkanunde Swapnangal shaped Mammootty’s film career. He became a celebrity after the huge success of film New Delhi, directed by Joshi.
Mammootty acting talent could be seen in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada films. In his acting career, he made a record acting in more than 360 films. He also set a record of playing double role in Malayalam films.
Mammooty won many Filmfare Awards and Film Critics Awards. He was honoured with the Padamsree in 1998. He was awarded with V. Shantaram Award for the film, Dr. Ambedkar.
He also bagged a range of other awards such as Asia Pacific Merlian Award, Cinema Express Awards, Ramu Karyat Award, Asianet Film Awards and Screen Award.
Mammootty is also Chairman of Malayalam Communications, which runs Malayalam TV channels such as Kairali TV, People TV, and WE TV. He got married to Sulfath in 1980 and have daughter, Surumiand a son, Dulquer Salmaan.
