Fruits are the ripened ovary or ovaries of a plant, together with the adjacent tissues. Fruits are important for the attractive colors, pleasing aroma, which is due to the presence of aldehydes and alcohol, sweet taste, crunchy texture and for the nutrients hey contribute to the diet. Fruits are one of the oldest of food known to mankind.
Adolf just, the world famous naturopath, in his book, Return to Nature states, "Fruits alone contain healing draughts for man; Nature offers them ready made, they taste delicious and are sure to cure all the suffering and diseases. Fruit contains nectar and ambrosia".
They contain substantial quantities of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables can be called as powerhouses of energy. They are easily digested and exercise a cleansing effect on the blood and the digestive tract.
Fruits are categorized as citrous fruits, melons, berries, tropical fruits, dried fruits, and many common fruits such as apples and pears. Most fruits grow on trees, but some are found on bushes or on ground.
Fruits should be eaten seasonally. Most fruits are harvested in summer and autumn and during these seasons our body needs to build up reservoir of vitamins for the winters. More toxins are eliminated during these seasons; fruits cleanse the body by stimulating bowel activity. In winter, one should consume reconstituted dried fruit.
