Kollywood Upcoming Movies
Tamil cinema is known as Kollywood in India. It is the third largest film industry based in the State of Tamilnadu. Kollywood is a colloquial term used to describe this industry, since most of the film studios were based around the locality of Kodambakkam in Chennai city.
The first Tamil silent film Keechaka Vadam was created by R Nataraja Mudaliar in 1918. Over a century, Tamil film industry has produced some the finest movies in the country like Nayakan, Chandralekha, Bombay, Roja, Moondram Pirai. Some of the top grosser in the country like Endiran, I, Anniyan, Mersal, Kabali have ensured the presence of the industry in the north Indian market. Over the last quarter of the 20th century, Tamil films from India established a global presence through distribution to an increasing number of overseas theatres in Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Japan, Europe and North America.

Pathu Thala (பத்து தல)Pathu Thala (transl. The Ten headed) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language neo-noir gangster film directed by Obeli N. Krishna. The film stars Silambarasan, Gautham Karthik, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Anu Sithara, Teejay Arunasalam, Kalaiyarasan and Redin Kingsley. It is an official adaptation of the 2017 Kannada film, Mufti. The title of the film was announced on 24 December 2020. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on 30 March 2023. |

Ponniyin Selvan 2The magnum opus of Mani Ratnam ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ was released in theatres on September 30 and the film was a huge blockbuster and it reportedly grossed Rs 500 crore at the box office worldwide. Now the sequel of the movie, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is all set to release in theatres on April 28. Reports suggest the film’s audio launch and the trailer of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ will happen on March 29. According to reports, the film’s trailer launch will happen in Chennai. An official announcement is yet to be made by the movie makers. ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a historic epic drama adapted from the novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman. While the original sound track of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ is yet to be released, it is speculated the first single from ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ will be out by March first week. The movie stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles and the supporting cast includes Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu and Jayaram among others. |
LeoLeo is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language gangster action thriller film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who co-wrote the script with Rathna Kumar and Deeraj Vaidy. The soundtrack will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander. It is produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar, under Seven Screen Studio, and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy. The film stars Vijay and Trisha, with an ensemble supporting cast. The film was officially announced in January 2023 under the tentative title Thalapathy 67, marking Vijay's 67th film as a lead actor, and the title of the film was announced a few days later. Principal photography commenced the same month in Chennai along with a sporadic schedule in Kashmir. It is scheduled to conclude in May. Leo is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on 19 October 2023. |
